Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon
Plastic surgery for cosmetic reasons has become increasingly popular. Many men and women who are not happy with an aspect of their appearance are opting for plastic surgery to help them regain their self-confidence and improve their appearance. Some common plastic surgery procedures include liposuction, tummy tucks and nose jobs.
If you are considering one of these procedures, for cosmetic or medical reasons, you will have to find a plastic surgeon. Los Angeles offers many surgeons, but it is important to take certain factors into consideration before making your decision.
The most important factors to look at when choosing a plastic surgeon are qualifications and experience. A physician could easily give the impression that he/she is a qualified plastic surgeon due to the fact that many procedures are carried out from the doctor’s rooms. It would be best, however, to choose a surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS). A surgeon who is a member of the ASPS is guaranteed to be board certified in plastic surgery.
There are almost 5000 member surgeons of the ASPS in the United States. You will easily be able to find a plastic surgeon in Los Angeles who is an ASPS member. To get a list of member plastic surgeons, visit the ASPS website. If a plastic surgeon was recommended to you by your family doctor or by a friend, don’t be shy to ask the surgeon about his/her qualifications and training. It is your right to know if the surgeon is trained and experienced enough to perform the procedure of your choice.
Plastic surgery is an invasive procedure, and it is important that the surgeon you choose is skilled. When you go for your initial consultation with a plastic surgeon, feel confident about asking about his/her experience. Also get information about the procedure itself, the risks involved and the expectations you have. The surgeon should be able to answer your questions clearly. You should enquire about where the procedure will be done as sometimes a plastic surgeon in has hospital privileges.
Alternatively, the surgeon may have his own accredited facility where he performs the procedures. Whatever criteria you decide to use when making your decision, be sure that you are comfortable with the plastic surgeon. In Los Angeles, you can also contact a local hospital to get a list of board-certified plastic surgeons that are on the staff. Be wary of choosing a plastic surgeon solely from information on advertisements. You will not know about their certifications and training.
If you have narrowed your list down to two or three and are not sure which plastic surgeon to choose, then it would be a good idea to visit all for consultations. This will give you an opportunity to interview each one and compare their opinions, the type of surgery they do as well as their fees structure. When making your final decision, choose the plastic surgeon that you are happy with, and remember that the cheapest option may not always give you the best results.
