LASIK Eye Surgery

No two eyes are alike; therefore no two procedures are alike. Your LASIK surgeon will work with you one on one to determine the best type of treatment for you -- addressing your individual needs and concerns. Procedures are performed by qualified ophthalmologists, who are highly specialized and experienced in refractive surgery and advanced LASIK procedures. All surgeries are performed in accredited facilities, utilizing the most advanced technologies with safety and patient satisfaction as our #1 priority.

LASIK involves creating a flap consisting of the surface layers of the cornea; the flap represents about 20% of the total corneal thickness. The flap is then laid aside and an excimer laser is then used to reshape the underlying layers of the cornea. The resultant shape of the cornea will thereby allow light to be focused correctly, thereby eliminating refractive errors of the eye such as nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), astigmatism and presbyopia (the need for reading glasses). In Custom LASIK, data collected using WaveScan technology will reveal subtle visual abnormalities (higher order aberrations) that cannot be detected in the typical eye exam. This information is then used to customize your particular treatment to ensure that you receive the best results possible.

Custom LASIK

In Custom Lasik a microkeratome is used to make a corneal flap. A device called a vacuum ring is then attached to the front of the eye. This stabilizes the eye and temporarily raises the pressure to aid in the creation of a smooth flap. Next, the microkeratome, with its oscillating blade and drive mechanism, guides itself across the vacuum ring, thereby creating the flap. Once the flap is created, the excimer laser reshapes the cornea utilizing the WaveScan analysis to precisely correct refractive errors. Your Lasik surgeon then carefully replaces the flap to its original position.

All Laser Custom Lasik (Intralase)

All Laser Custom Lasik utilizes a femtosecond laser to create the corneal flap. The patient's eye is "docked" to the Intralase and a glass plate flattens the corneal. The Intralase then deposits pulses of energy at a very precise distance beyond the surface of the glass plate (or, when docked against the eye, at a very precise depth in the cornea). Each pulse of energy produces a microscopic bubble; the pulses are delivered so that an entire sheet of confluent bubbles is produced in the plane of the "flap-to-be." Next, rings of pulses are stacked around the edge of the bubble layer until the surface of the cornea is reached. At the end of the procedure, the location of a flap has been defined with microscopic bubbles. The surgeon then uses a tiny probe to "connect the dots" and lifts up the flap without ever having to cut the cornea. Like Custom LASIK

The eye is docked to the laser and a glass plate is used to safely and painlessly flatten the surface layers of the cornea. The laser then emits pulses of energy at precise distances into the cornea, creating microscopic bubbles. Once a confluent sheet of bubbles is produced, rings of pulses are stacked around the circumference of the bubble layer and the surface layer is carefully lifted without cutting the cornea. As in Custom LASIK, the excimer laser reshapes the cornea utilizing the WaveScan analysis to precisely correct refractive errors. Your Lasik surgeon then carefully replaces the flap to its original position. Because All Laser Custom Lasik utilizes a more precise technology to create the flap, patients who may not have been eligible for other Lasik techniques may now be a candidate for this procedure.
