BREAST AUGMENTATION BASICS

In Los Angeles, breast augmentation patients have two options when it comes to breast implants - saline or silicone. Both have undergone extensive testing and have been approved for use by the FDA. Our board certified surgeons are able to achieve natural looking results with either implant; however, silicone breast implants more closely mimic natural breast tissue allowing for a more natural feel.

In most cases, breast implants are placed under the muscle. This not only provides patients with a more natural looking result, studies have shown that it also reduces the risk of capsular contracture and bottoming out.

When it comes to incision site, Los Angeles breast augmentation patients have four options: 1) Throught the Areola, 2) Under the Fold, 3) Through the Armpit or 4) Through the Belly Button. Most often the areola is the preferred incision site because the skin around the areola is thinner and tends to heal more favorably. This is because the scar easily hidden along the natural border where the dark skin meets the light skin. Patients may also require an additional procedure at some point in time, either to change the size of the implant or to get a breast lift. The initial incision around the areola can be used again for additional procedures.

Immediate downtime is about a week, with limited activity for the first 4-6 weeks. Los Angeles breast augmentation patients often return to work after a week and are required to wear a compression garment (sports bra) for the first month to ensure optimal healing. Your surgeon will discuss post-breast augmentation massage and other instructions before your procedure.
