One of the reasons plastic surgery is considered very safe in today’s civilized society is because of the knowledge required of board certified doctors. These surgeons must pass very intensive training at an accredited school and perform plastic surgery under a professional’s guidance for many years before earning their doctoral degree. The job of the plastic surgeon, besides performing the surgery, is to communicate with the patient to make sure he or she understands the process and has a realistic view of what plastic surgery is. Doctors may specialize in certain procedures (such as breast augmentation or facial surgeries) or may study all practices related to cosmetic surgical procedures. The surgical procedures the plastic surgeon performs have improved their patients’ looks and self-esteem.
