Some Costs of Plastic Surgery Predicted to Drop in ‘09
A financial blogger for Kiplinger.com developed an upbeat list of good buys and bargains we will see in 2009 – despite the recession.
Among them: lowered prices for some plastic surgery procedures. Based on current trends, blogger Jon Frandsen notes that many procedures are already set at 10 to 25 percent less than a year ago.
He also predicts that price bargaining among patients will increase and that some surgeons will offer “value plus” items like free Botox injections or a laser treatment when having more extensive cosmetic plastic surgery like:
Adds Jon: “If bargains aren’t advertised by specific doctors, ask!”
Already, some plastic surgeons are thinking up new ways to do business.
One surgeon has returned the layaway plan for cosmetic treatments.
Cosmetic surgeon Semone Rochlin, D.O. in Scottsdale, Arizona, calls her new offering, the “layaway plan for budgeted beauty.”
Consumers choose the surgical procedure they want, put down $1000 and then make monthly installments until the total amount is covered. Surgery follows. Hidden bonus for waiting: you’ve paid absolutely no finance charges. Plus you have locked in your price.
(See our post about the typical cost of breast augmentation.)
The layaway plan is probably a good idea after the president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) announced a 62 percent decrease in overall cosmetic procedures during the first six months of 2008. However, Botox users remain constant with the average U.S. treatment running at $501.
Financing is still available for plastic surgery patients, but many shy away from it because of uncertainty in the job market.
Are you forsaking credit cards, too?
