Plastic Surgery: When is Enough?
Bad Plastic Surgery, Plastic Surgery Comments (1)
Given a good outcome, plastic surgery is a good thing that changes lives for the better.
But there can be too much of a good thing.
Some people have had six, seven or more cosmetic plastic surgeries.
In a recent blog, we carried two posts about the many cosmetic surgeries of Cindy Jackson who claims the Guinness world record for largest number of rejuvenation surgeries.
You probably already know about a psychological condition known as body dysmorphic disorder in which a person is never satisfied and continues on and on through 10, 15 or more cosmetic procedures.
Elsewhere in the blogosphere, some make a living by writing about their many plastic surgery procedures and what’s next. One U.S. citizen in London is an example of a living, ever-changing plastic surgery canvas.
So any reasonable person may wonder, when is it enough?
Ignoring the facial injectables procedures like Restylane, Botox and Juvederm which wear off, how does the average person know if he or she wants too much cosmetic surgery?
There can be the overfilled look when augmented lips are pumped up to the point they can legitimately be labeled a “trout pout.” Public examples include former Bond girl Britt Ekland.
Laser procedures can be overdone to the point a person looks marbleized; ditto for chemical peels which can give the skin a constantly inflamed look.
Medically, the risk of complications increase with more procedures to the same feature. Need we say any more than Michael Jackson’s many nose jobs? Scar tissue can also a problem for surgeons.
While experts say you should have plastic surgery to a correct bodily or facial features that bother you, it may be a good idea to listen to the opinion of others when you’re thinking about another procedure.
At a bare minimum, you should pay attention when a plastic surgeon’s opinion is that you need no more surgical correction.
But, hey, don’t take our word for it! Read the account of a 37-year-old man who, over 20 years, had 37 plastic surgeries costing one-quarter million dollars.
Red warning flags: Note he had surgery done after personal losses. When two relatives died in a plane crash, he had a face lift. After his mother passed away, he asked for a cheek lift.
What do you think? How much is too much?
