Plastic Surgery: Get it for Yourself!

Plastic Surgery Comments (0)

The D.N.A. (Daily News & Analysis) website took a poll on plastic surgery and men’s reaction to it in a recent blog post.

The poll, taken in India, asked 500 men if they were put off by women who had cosmetic surgery. The poll revealed:

  • 51 percent were turned off
  • 49 percent were not

Interestingly though, many of the men who were “against” plastic surgery said that they were more so against it for people who were already good looking. As for those who are not so fortunate, men were more inclined to approve of the plastic surgery procedures.

While India has a rapidly emerging economy which includes many well trained plastic and cosmetic surgeons – with many more men and women asking for rejuvenation surgery – they may be missing a major point about who undergoes facial or body surgery.

According to the ethics of the profession, the only reason a person should get a cosmetic plastic surgery is to please him-or-herself.

In fact, well-trained plastic surgeons are taught to be alert for:

If the surgeon thinks a patient may be getting rejuvenation surgery to please somebody else, he or she is duty bound to turn that patient down.

Other answers when the surgeon is likely to show the patient to the door:

  • “I just broke up with somebody and want to feel better.”
  • “Somebody close died and I need a pick-me-up.”

(Read more about the right reasons for cosmetic surgery.)

The surgeon learns the correct motivation by handing the would-be patient a mirror and asking:

“What, if anything, bothers you about your appearance?”

Conclusion: it does not matter what other people think of, or how they react to, your cosmetic plastic surgery procedure.

It’s something you do for yourself and yourself only!
