Plastic Surgery and the Importance of Beauty
At the end of the day, the purpose of facial plastic surgery procedures like:
- Rhinoplasty
- Eyelid lifts
- Face lifts
- Neck lifts
- Forehead lifts
- Chin augmentation
is to make us more beautiful in the eyes of the opposite sex.
But why is beauty so important?
Because of the way the human brain is wired, all physical attraction is based on reproduction – even if you don’t want to reproduce!
The process works on an unconscious level, with our genes often leading our behavior.
According to evolution scientists, the human brain interprets faces that are symmetrical and balanced as being free of diseases, injuries or genetic mutations.
Results? Our brains and genetic systems see a symmetrical face with smooth skin as one that offers genetic quality, health and vitality. Later testing of that assumption showed that faces we consider beautiful or handsome do indeed belong to more healthy people.
That results in healthy offspring who stand a better chance of surviving to perpetuate the parent’s genes.
Actually, the bottom line is: our genes want to survive through generations into infinity.
Experiments have shown that when humans see a face for the first time, the eyes of the beholder immediately center on the stranger’s nose and eyes, scanning for genetic information.
Like it or not, our brains are hard-wired to seek out attractiveness.
Moreover, it works across cultures: Germans highly rate the same Japanese faces as beautiful as do the Japanese themselves.
Women looking at men for the first time scan for larger noses and chins and smaller eyes.
Why those features? Because they are associated with strong levels of testosterone, aggressive behavior, risk taking and virility – traits that speed along procreation and, later, help to protect the offspring.
Moving down the body, the same unconscious principles apply. Women also prefer men who:
Have large muscles: Stronger men can better protect the female and her offspring. (But if a modern guy does not have natural muscles, implants are available for biceps, chests, sides and calves.)
Flat chests: Again, show powerful muscles. (But if a guy has a flabby or feminine chest, gynecomastia or male breast reduction surgery is available.)
The legendary attraction of men to large breasts and buttocks in females is again a reproductive signal that the woman being admired is full of estrogen and fertile.

I just wanted to comment on this. I do believe that beauty is important, and if that requires some plastic surgery than by all means, do it. The only recommendation i have, is have the surgery because YOU want to, not because of anyone else. Beauty is important, but can only go so far. Beauty builds confidence.
