How Long Does Botox Last

Botox, Injectables Comments (0)

The cost of cosmetic and plastic surgery is on the minds of many patients in Los Angeles and the nearby Inland Empire, if a recent report on Botox is true.

With more people anxious to spend as little as possible until the current economy improves, the American Society for Dermatological Surgery (ASDS) took a survey of its members about who, when and how often surgical rejuvenation doctors are giving Botox. Results?

  • 40%  said Botox injections are up from six months ago.
  • 48%  said things have stayed the same
  • 12 % said Botox was down

In the same survey, 44% of those surveyed said their patients were returning to the office longer than the usual three months before a typical follow up appointment. (If you didn’t already know, Botox loses its effects in about three months.)

Orange County’s Allergen, the manufacturer of Botox did research that complements the trend. According to Allergen, more people are using the wrinkle remover in the United States, but are returning to their doctors about every 6 ½  months. Hey, it’s one way to stretch a buck!

But no matter what type of facial injectable you use or how often you use it, professional societies like the American Association of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) recommend:

  • Having your plastic surgeon perform the injections.
  • Nurses and physician assistants (PA) can give injections if the doctor who prescribed the substance is supervising.
  • The nurse or PA must deliver the injections in a medical setting. (READ: No Botox parties at the mall!)

What is your favorite? Botox, Juvederm or Restylane?
